Can Vitamin C Help Prevent Wrinkles?

Prior research has shown that Vitamin C is good for your immune systems due to its antioxidant properties. Aside from helping ward off the common cold, Vitamin C also, helps remove harmful free radicals in the body that help cause some chronic conditions. Furthermore, Vitamin C aids the body in absorbing iron, which is a necessary nutrient.

Now new research from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggest that Vitamin C may also help prevent wrinkles too. The theory is that antioxidant properties from vitamin C helps protect against ultraviolet rays. In addition, Vitamin C also aids the skin in producing collagen. This helps prevent the skin from being wrinkled and dry.

Another positve benefit Vitamin C may have on the skin is reducing melanin formation. Melanin is what causes the formation of dark pigmentation on the skin. Therefore, Vitamin C can also help prevent some dark spots and blemishes on your face and help keep your skin lighter.

Most of us already know that citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, grape fruits, and tangerines are rich in Vitamin C. Other types of fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C include broccoli, cranberries, strawberries, tomatoes, red cabbage, red peppers, sweet potatoes, and snow peas. Shine from Yahoo has given out four different recipes that are rich in vitamin C to help ward off some wrinkles.
